This post is only partly accurate: yes, it is not a legally binding sign, and you cannot recieve tickets for disobeying it. However, if you do not obey this sign, you can be charged with careless driving (or whatever the derivative of it exists locally). Careless driving charges are not limited to the roadway, so you can be charged with careless driving for blowing stop signs in parking lots.

Crazy Americans, in my country, stop signs have "STOP" written on them.

Excellent now I will ignore all stop signs then slam on my brakes after passing, jump out of the car and check for a tiny sticker.
