Thanksgiving bicycle "turkey ride" in San Francisco

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Bicyclists in San Francisco have mapped out a 50-mile Thanksgiving-themed route through the city, in the form of a turkey wearing a pilgrim hat.

From SF Gate:
The 50-mile route outlines the shape of a turkey, with the starting line near Castro and 14th St. The wing takes you through the Castro, Dolores Heights, and the Mission District. The route gets harder to follow from there, forming the feathers of the turkey on the east side of the city.

Then, you head south through Portola and the Balboa Park area for the turkey's feet. If you somehow manage to make it this far, you can continue through Twin Peaks, Cole Valley, and Haight-Ashbury until you reach the turkey's head. Then there are a few loops through Pacific Heights and the Marina District before you can head back south towards City Hall to finish the ride.

New OK Go video filmed in 4.2 seconds

Thursday, November 24, 2016

OK Go have released another one of their creative videos (previously), for their 2014 song The One Moment, with most part of it filmed in only 4.2 seconds.
The first three quarters of the video, from the beginning of the song until I pick up the umbrella at the a cappella breakdown, unfold over 4.2 seconds of real time. Then I lip sync in real time for about 16 seconds (we thought it was important to have a moment of human contact at this point in the song, so we returned to the realm of human experience) and we return to slow motion for the final chorus paint scene, which took a little longer than 3 seconds in real time.

BFFs of the day: Polar bear pets dog

Friday, November 18, 2016

While driving with some clients out in the Canadian tundra in North Manitoba, David de Meulles came across and filmed this adorable scene in which a wild polar bear gently interacted with a Canadian Eskimo dog, adorably petting it on its head.
I had no idea what was going to happen, and then sure enough he started petting that dog, acted like he was a friend. …I’ve known the bears to have somewhat friendly behaviour with the dogs, but for a bear to pet like a human would pet a dog is just mind-blowing. It was a beautiful sight to see, and I just can’t believe an animal that big would show that kind of heart toward another animal.

Inmates in Alabama prison do the Mannequin challenge

Time-lapse video of huge sinkhole in Japan getting fixed

Thursday, November 17, 2016

Hakata,JAPAN LOVE has put together a time-lapse video that shows Japanese workers filling up and fixing the massive sinkhole that appeared on a busy street in the business district of Fukuoka, in just a few days.

From CNN:
After the sinkhole appeared on November 8, subcontractors worked around the clock to fill in the 30 meter (98 ft) wide, 15 meter (50 ft) deep hole by the 12th with a mixture of sand and cement. The job was complicated by the water which had seeped in from sewage pipes destroyed by collapsing sections of road.

After that it only took another 48 hours to reinstall all utilities -- electricity, water, sewage, gas and telecommunication lines -- and to resurface the road. There were no reports of injuries.
