Bahrain bans the import of Guy Fawkes masks

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

From Al Akhbar English:
Bahrain has banned Guy Fawkes masks, in an apparent bid to further stifle opposition protests in the wealthy Gulf state.

A document issued by the Bahraini Ministry of Industry and Commerce on Thursday cited "public safety" as a factor behind the decision to ban the import of "revolution masks."
Bahrain has witnessed two years of political upheaval linked to opposition demands for a real constitutional monarchy, with the unrest claiming at least 80 lives, according to international rights groups.

Protests continue despite the resumption on February 10 of a national dialogue between opposition groups and the government. A Saudi-led Gulf force entered the island in March 2011 to help crush the rebellion, but the country still witnesses almost daily protests.

Bad ass Russian driver of the day

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Alexei Volkov, a bus driver from Zelenograd, Russia, records himself legally rear-ending rude and careless drivers while doing his job, and posts the videos to Youtube. He's been doing it since 2007 and it earned him the nickname "The Punisher."

Below is a compilation of his clips:

From The Daily Mail:
Mr Volkov, by his own admission, has already has had more than one hundred traffic accidents.

Amazingly, he has kept his job despite the number of smashes and his unapologetic attitude and his unorthodox approach attracts a lot of sympathy, reports Red Hot Russia.

He said: 'If there is no fault of mine, the management doesn’t care. The bus usually gets only minor damage. If the damage is more serious, they just wait for the insurance payments and then repair it.
For example, in the last accident the front bumper was seriously deformed after I hit a truck weighing three tonnes.'

'What could I do? Swerve to the left in the oncoming traffic or suddenly brake and maybe injure the passengers?

'In both cases my licence would be revoked and I’d have some serious problems. While the happy b****** would just leave the scene. I am not interested in such an outcome. The cops just grin.'

In an attempt to make the world a better and more efficient place, OREO has contracted the world’s best roboticists, artists and tinkerers to create machines that will do the work for us. "Worst portrait tattoo in the world" gets fixed

Friday, February 22, 2013

Tattoo artist Scott Versago of Empire Ink studio in Akron, OH, had the privilege of making some alterations to one of the most Internet-famous tattoos. He posted the image above on his Facebook page, along with the sad story behind the portrait:
I got to tackle the official #1 worst portrait tattoo in the world today. I'm sure you've all seen it a million times online, as had I. I couldn't believe my eyes when this guy walked in and showed me this project. I think my jaw literally hit the floor. He went on to tell me the story behind the portrait; He had just married his beautiful wife and not even a month afterwards she was killed in a horrible house fire accident leaving him to raise their child alone. Shortly after he went to a local tattoo studio to memorialize his wife and was left with this abomination. He later returned to that studio for one more session, thinking that perhaps "he had done something wrong in the healing of the tattoo" and they butchered it even more the second time. Finally, he drove all the way to my studio, Empire Ink, just to meet me and to see what his options were. Touched by his story, I gifted the entire project to him for free. Now he has closure and I have an amazing story to add to my portfolio!
