Movie trailer: "The Hateful Eight"

Thursday, August 13, 2015

Quentin Tarantino's eighth feature film, The Hateful Eight, gets its first full-length official trailer.
In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie's Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

The film is scheduled to premiere in select theaters on Christmas day and everywhere, on January 8th, 2016.

Supercut: Every explosion in every Arnold Schwarzenegger movie

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

To promote his Blow Shit Up With Arnold Omaze event aimed at helping the After-School All-Stars charity he founded, Arnold Schwarzenegger posts OVERKILL - The Schwarzenegger Explosion Supercut, a 32-minute compilation that features all the explosions in all the movies he starred in throughout his action star career.
To show you what I mean when I say blow sh*t up, here is a Supercut with EVERY explosion from EVERY film I have starred in that had an explosion to count, up through Sabotage. In order to do this, my team had to come up with some rules.

Explosions were counted frame by frame based on every instance of an actual explosion.
This includes repeated explosions, as well as explosions within explosions. Explosions that continued through an edit were only counted once.

An honest attempt was made to count every explosion based on these rules.

In some cases an educated guess was made.

Ladder-shaped fireworks

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

Back in June, Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang has successfully carried out his third attempt at his pyrotechnics project Sky Ladder, an installation that recreates a ladder made of fireworks in the sky.
A gigantic white balloon filled with 6200 cubic meters of helium and with a 5-ton pulling force slowly dragged a 500-meter long, 5.5-meter wide ladder lined with quick-burning fuses and nozzles of gold fireworks high into the sky. Cai ignited the ladder from the bank, causing dazzling flames to race along the beach before climbing onto the platform where the ladder was first laid out. Hissing violently, the flames rushed upwards as the golden ladder of fireworks rose steeply from the ground, curving elegantly against the backdrop of the dawn sky. After 60 seconds, the fireworks started to die out from the bottom up, bit by bit, as if the ladder was moving upwards, leading the viewers to look up and converse with infinity. The explosion lasted a total of 150 seconds.

Father builds 50-meter straw for daughter's birthday

Thursday, August 6, 2015

A creative father has created a memorable birthday present for her five-year-old daughter, by building her a nearly-fifty-meter functional drinking straw.
Instead of giving her more toys I wanted to give my daughter a happy memory. For her 5th birthday, I created a (nearly) 50 meter crazy drinking straw, all over our holiday home. I started building while she was napping on the garden pillows. When she woke up, the straw was hanging in front of her.

It took me a while and when she woke up, it also took her a while to sip from her drink :-) but we had a great time. She especially loved tearing the complete construction down.
