10 blockbuster movie mistakes you didn't see

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

In its latest video, Screen Rant (previously) points out major mistakes that made the final cut in ten major Hollywood movies.
It’s almost impossible to release a film that doesn’t include a single flawed stunt, unexpected mistake, or even a minor plot hole most fans will overlook. When the budgets get bigger and the action sequences and running times grow along with them, the errors that can slip through are often hard to believe. And for the die-hard fans, the best bloopers can make a film worth watching all by themselves.

The 11 actors that voice more than 100 Simpsons characters

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

Vox has created a video in which they highlight 11 actors who provide the voices behind more than 100 characters on The Simpsons.
The Simpsons just entered it's 27th season and has been renewed for a 28th. As the longest-running primetime scripted series on television, The Simpsons has produced hundreds of characters, each with a different voice — but not necessarily a different actor. That's because each of the principal actors on the show voice multiple characters, in some cases dozens of them.

Here's a cat meowing underwater

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

Back in 2013, YouTube user SixStringSamurai posted this video of his cat McLovin meowing underwater, while taking a bath.
He just doesn't like the bath, as most cats don't. And contrary to the belief of some, there is no actual animal abuse happening in this video. I am not holding him down in the tub, and he was free to jump out at any time. The door to the bathroom was obviously closed behind me. Also, there is NOT too much water in the tub. My cat is CLEARLY crouching, and could have stood up higher at any point during the video.

To give you a little more back story, McLovin had to have his tongue surgically removed. It's a long story. It took him several months to learn to eat orally again after his surgery. Because he has no tongue, he cannot groom himself, and therefore, I must bathe him, or he becomes matted and starts chewing his fur out in clumps.

NASA has recently released this high-resolution photo of Pluto taken from Ralph/Multispectral Visual Imaging Camera aboard the New Horizons space probe passing the dwarf planet on July 14, 2015.
Pluto’s surface sports a remarkable range of subtle colors, enhanced in this view to a rainbow of pale blues, yellows, oranges, and deep reds. Many landforms have their own distinct colors, telling a complex geological and climatological story that scientists have only just begun to decode. The image resolves details and colors on scales as small as 0.8 miles (1.3 kilometers). The viewer is encouraged to zoom in on the image on a larger screen to fully appreciate the complexity of Pluto’s surface features.

Hollywood blockbusters only succeed by raising the pace, scale or budget of the on-screen action. Book of the day: "The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray"

Friday, September 18, 2015

Author Robert Schnakenberg has recently released his latest book The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray: A Critical Appreciation of the World's Finest Actor.
He’s the sort of actor who can do Hamlet and Charlie’s Angels in the same year. He shuns managers and agents and once agreed to voice the part of Garfield because he mistakenly believed it was a Coen brothers film. Bill Murray’s extraordinary career is rich with fascinating anecdotes, contradictions, and mystery, from his early success on Saturday Night Live and the biggest blockbusters of the 1980s (Caddyshack, Stripes, Tootsie, Ghostbusters) to his reinvention as a hipster icon in the early 21st century (in films like Lost in Translation and Moonrise Kingdom). And now you can get your fill of Bill: part biography, part critical appreciation, part love letter, and all fun, The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray chronicles every single Murray performance in loving detail, relating all the milestones, yarns, and controversy in the life of this beloved but enigmatic performer. These pages are packed with color film stills and behind-the-scenes photography.
In the book, Schnakenberg chronicles, among others, every reason the legendary actor has missed out on important movie roles. Here are some examples, courtesy of Washington Post:
"Iron Man": "We wanted Bill to consider a role in ‘Iron Man,’ but nobody could find him," Robert Downey Jr. said.

"Bad Santa": "According to director Terry Zwigoff, Murray made a verbal agreement to do the film, but when the time came to sign his contract, he was incommunicado," Schnakenberg writes. Zwigoff said, "I left several messages on his answering machine, but after a few weeks of hearing nothing, we eventually moved on."

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit?": "The elusive actor proved impossible to track down." (Schnakenberg adds that Murray later regretted missing out on this one.)

"Bottle Rocket": Schnakenberg notes that "Murray was traveling the country in a Winnebago at the time the film was being cast and never saw the screenplay." However, he liked Wes Anderson’s style, so got on board for "Rushmore."

"Airplane!": "This is gonna work, but it’s not," Murray was quoted as saying about the cult favorite, after turning down the lead role of Ted Striker.
