You mention it is decriminalizated in the Netherlands and legal in Belgium but its the other way around!

Anonymous said...

Yeah smoking weed isn't all bad BUT it certainly isn't all good. I suppose it's not worth mentioning the studies which link pot smoking to early onset of psychiatric disorders... because some people don't like to read balanced views. Just because skunk doesn't kill you, doesn't make it safe.

Anonymous said...

I don't remember at what point it became everyone's fucking business what I do with my body.

Anonymous said...

That study you bring up, showing early onset psychiatric disorders, only applies when genetically pre-disposed, meaning, they were going to get it anyway. There has never been an overdose on pot, or a death by pot consumption. I may not have a harvard degree, but I'm sure if you head up to Cambridge, somebody is up there smoking pot who went/goes too Harvard.

karl said...

In Belgium it's more decriminalised than legal. For 18+ possession and consumption of small amounts is allowed, unless it's in a public space or involves minors - growing and dealing is strictly prohibited and there have been recent prosecutions.

Anonymous said...

WTF? im from uruguay and ITS NOT LEGAL IN ANY WAY, you cant own it, you cant grow it and less sell it, neither in argentina.
Where the fuck this people got that info?

Anonymous said...

To say that there are no deaths from Marijuana seems inacurrate when I'm sure that the 85,000 deaths from alcohol include deaths related to impaired judgement such as car crashes or falls. Out of all the people getting higheach year, surely some of them hurt themselves falling down stairs or driving to the local kebab shop.

Also, how does one die of caffeine? Heart attacks?

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous
Actually, every single person I've ever seen drive while high has been extremely cautious and defensive while driving. No speeding, no aggression, nothing. If anything, they drive under the speed limit and only ever get pulled over for holding up traffic (if it's during daytime/rush hour).

420 Guy said...

To the anonymous who stated some of the 85000 deaths from alcohol include deaths related to impaired judgement, no that's not the case, those figures are death directly caused by the intoxicant in question. And yes, heart attack is the normal reason people die from caffeine.

As for the medical marijuana history, I am afraid I must correct the creator of this site. Marijuana was first cited as a medical resource not in 1700's in china but rather 2700BC by Emperor Shen-Nung. Emperor Shen-Nung wrote a book on herbs and Marijuana was listed as an herb with medicinal qualities.

Queen Victoria took marijuana for menstrual craps. Zoroaster described marijuana as "The good narcotic". Carl Sagan claims that his best work was done under the influence. I've been working on a series of articles about who has gone on record over the years as a marijuana user, check it out here http://420-now.blogspot.com/search/label/In%20Good%20Company oh and in case you didn't spot it the first article on the page about Stephen Harper was an April Fools post.

yeah i know Holland is the netherlands but is LEGAL not DECRIMINALIZED so bad info.

Anonymous said...

It's not Legal in Argentina

not the most legitimate 'facts' in the world.
marijuana is scientifically linked to increased rates of schizophrenia. those who have psychotic episodes on weed are genetically predisposed to it. smoking weed also increases chances of lung cancer and contains up to 4x more tar than cigarettes. marijuana is also believed to be one of the first cultivated crops during the agricultural revolution. the active ingredient (thc) only affects two parts of the body, the brain (duh) and the testes - so be prepared to lose some of the little fellas if you habitually smoke it.

Anonymous said...

Male Plants CAN get you high, just contain less THC. Female plants have the flowering parts, but leaves of either gender do contain THC.

Anonymous said...

Who the fuck hasn't tried weed? And we're putting people to jail for something almost all of us have done and know for a fact is safe, for the price of increased crime, drug use and wasted taxes.

Anonymous said...

Vaporizing heats it up to almost boiling? That doesn't make sense. Optimal vaporizing temperature is around 350-360 F.

Anonymous said...

I think this conversation should start with...How can you possibly say that alcohol is safer than pot?
I agree this website is stupid...if you want facts, the internet is not the place to go.
In response to..."I bet you didnt get a Harvard degree.":
How would that matter? Would getting a Harvard degree put in some type of super-class of people? Elitist BS...I bet you didn't get a degree in any type of medical field. That might have actually meant something pertaining to this conversation.

Anonymous said...

I bet if I got my degree from Harvard I would never have typos.

Anonymous said...

i love weed

Anonymous said...

i would love a 100 gram joint.

Anonymous said...

much of the information listed is inaccurate

Anonymous said...

i still think it should be illegal, it changes one persons moods it makes me feel neglected in my relationship because my husband and my best friend have used pot and like i told them before if i caught them smoking pot i have no fucking problem shooting them and i agree with the person who said the information listed is inaccurate, i know a lot about it, it doesn't help you get better it has almost the same affects as cocaine and i have had friends who have suffered panic attacks from this drug a long with hallucinations and short term memory loss is still a factor even if you use vaporization, my friend who uses vaporization gets moody at me whenever he's on it.

it definitely ruins my trust with him i don't think i can be friends with him anymore, if i could i would burn all the marijuana crops till every seed is gone.

Anonymous said...

LOL @ 12:07. go to sleep, b*tch

Anonymous said...

Ummmmm, the leaves don't get you high. It's the Budzzz

Anonymous said...

To the girl who talks about her husband (12:07):

What you said may be true, but it's not particularly a scenario that comes around often. The majority of people who smoke marijuana don't have mood problems and can very easily go on with their normal lives. Don't blame the drug for something like that, blame the person. Just because you think your husband and friend get moody when they smoke doesn't mean it should be illegal for everyone else.

Anyway, of course short term memory loss is a factor in vaporization. It comes from the effect of THC. It's one of the aspects of being high. But it doesn't persist after the high wears off, and it's not so severe that someone can't speak normally while they're high.

The fact of the matter is, if alcohol is legal, there's absolutely no reason why marijuana shouldn't be legal as well, especially since time and time again research has proved that marijuana is a safer "drug" (i still hate calling it that, considering it's not synthetic at all, it's just an herb).

So don't bitch about your husband's mood problems and make everyone else suffer because he can't control himself while high.

Anonymous said...

uhhhhhh, i'm just gonna throw this out there.. smoking anything is terrible for your lungs. and yes, facts do show that it can increase your chances of lung cancer.. bahaha.

pot heads irritate the fuck out of me.

Anonymous said...

im just gonna throw this out there for the idiot who threw it out there, breathing oxygen from the earth that has been polluted by man for 200+ years is not good for your lungs

Anonymous said...

lmfao @ 12:07

I'd have mood problems with you too if I were high. I'd want to shove a towel down your throat and duct tape your mouth shut. Actually, I'd probably lose my patience with you enough to want to do that sober; you wouldn't have to be a buzzkill for me to get testy with you.

"it makes me feel neglected in my relationship because my husband and my best friend have used pot and like i told them before if i caught them smoking pot i have no fucking problem shooting them"
Those are probably the dumbest words I have ever heard in my life, and I've listened to many little children babble. Maybe you should evaluate your own life and relationship instead of placing weed as a scapegoat for your problems?

Just be glad your husband's not an alcoholic, he'd beat you every night instead of "getting moody".

I've done lots of hands on research with marijuana, as well as carefully investigated it’s impact on my friends/acquaintances that use it. While I am neither a health professional nor a chemist/pharmacologist I am a scientist and know how to build an understanding of something, pot in this case, from a relatively objective standpoint. I've even taken copious notes and recorded the actions of myself and others while high for review and analysis while sober.

I do admit that there is some self-selection bias in my studies, my sample size is less than ideal and not completely representative of the population I'd like to sample, and my only real control is me (as the other users I know had been doing so before I met them). Regardless, what I have found rather significantly repudiates the droning negativity espoused by popular society, but also indicates that the substance (I don't like calling it a drug either) isn't safer than air as many chronic hard users would have you believe.

This will probably make me sound like an addict of some sort, but in order to be thorough I have both used and observed the use of pot in nearly every aspect of the daily life of myself and my sample. I have observed people using it while working, playing sports, relaxing, procreating, driving and socializing amongst other situations. I have yet to drive while intoxicated on it, though I plan to attempt it in 16 days, but have used it in the remainder of the prior situations. For my findings, see the next post as combined they exceed the 4,096 character limit.

My findings indicate that marijuana's effect on mood is not static (elevating or depressing), but appears instead to have two simultaneous effects: increased emotional intensity and greater personal acceptance of those emotions. I assert that pot will not make a sad person happy or a happy person sad, but will rather make a happy person feel their happiness far more acutely while making them more prone to act accordingly. When observing a sad or depressed person taking pot (or when I myself have been in such a state before smoking), I have not witnessed improved mood at a statistically significant level (a = .5). In the instances where I did observe elevated mood, I attribute it to the fact that the subjects' moods were 'contaminated': the revelation that I had pot I was willing to offer them free of charge elevated their mood somewhat prior to taking the substance.

I admit to breaking a few research ethics and protocols by not telling my subjects I was offering them marijuana to observe their reactions to it in varying environments, but this wasn't exactly a sanctioned study anyway. I wasn't going to throw all this out there, but after reading 12:07's comment I felt a desire to try and dispel some of the, in my opinion flawed, conclusions she appears to have drawn based on a few anecdotes that suffer from a lack of investigation.

Also, as to memory loss, I personally have not experienced any memory loss due to marijuana use. If you argue that I just haven't used it enough, know that I am a very thorough researcher: my usage has ranged from once or twice a week to a month long period of 4x daily use, using methods I devised to ensure extreme potency. I tested the potency as well by offering it to smokers of varying intensity, all of whom concurred with it's effectiveness. I have never had above-baseline memory degradation while using. I do not assert memory loss from pot use is false or a myth though, as I have observed it in others. However, as I have no way to know if my subjects were simply lying about the memory loss, and have to take them at their word.

Interestingly enough though, I did find a few cases in which lost memories were recovered. One of my test subjects, one of my ex's, broke down and laid all her emotional baggage out for me, but couldn't recall any of that the next day except for a vague feeling that she may have said some things she had been repressing for years. After a few days she was able to remember bits and pieces, and now remembers the whole conversation. Due to her emotional responses I believe that she did legitimately experience memory loss.

Last paragraph: I cannot compare marijuana to cocaine as I have never tried coke and do not currently know anyone who does (that I know of). The few coke users I have known I am no longer in contact with, nor did I take detailed accounts of their actions while on it, though I do remember them saying they had to shit a lot. As for hallucinations, the only person I know of to hallucinate on marijuana was myself, and then only the first two times I tried it (both times with methods approximating gravity bongs). I have discovered ways in which I can bring about hallucinations while high, but it requires a lot of mental fortitude that frankly most people cannot muster while intoxicated on marijuana, let alone at the levels required. And there's your daily science lesson on pot.

Definitely not legal in Finaland!

A guy who actually knows what he's talking about said...

For all you saying that weed causes lung cancer, how about you do some fucking research before crapping out your uninformed opinion. Here are some links you may find interesting:
http://esciencenews.com/sources/science.blog/2009/02/08/marijuana.ingredient.cuts.lung.cancer.growth.spread
http://www.counterpunch.org/gardner07302010.html
http://muhammadabduh.com/index.php/2010/06/dr-donald-tashkin-marijuana-lung-cancer-study-pt-1-of-2/
I would like to see you provide me with some valid scientific studies showing that weed does infact cause lung cancer.
And to the person that said pot contains 10x more tar than cigarettes lolno that was a myth created in the thirties to stop people from trying it.
And there have NEVER BEEN ANY DEATHS DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY RELATED TO MARIJUANA.

Jesus, I don't know who is more misinformed, the writers of this article or the people posting respones (not all of them, just most!)

To the woman who thinks it has the same effect as cocaine. All i can say to you is that the 30 seconds it took for me to read your post was long enough for me to decide that I feel very very sorry for your husband. He needs to divorce you and mary someone capable of empathy.

As for the poeple that think you CAN overdose on MJ.... Please go do some research, you will be amazed to discover that you are wrong.

For the people that are saying that MJ causes mental ilnesses... Again, please check your sources, you WILL find that there are NO independant studies that say this. At best, they will say that in young poeple WHO ARE ALREADY SUSCEPTABLE to such ilnesses. There is absolutely NO evidence to support this "Theory".

To everyone else... ffs, sit back, light a big fat one & laugh at sites like this and the people posting on them.

We need to get MJ back underground, so we don't have to put up with people who don't smoke it & know fuck all about it, banging on about it.

Sheesh people, give your heads a shake. Pot absolutely is a cause of lung cancer you are INHALING THE SMOKE use some common sense. It is a natural herb until you light it, when it combusts it becomes a chemical and when inhaling chemicals you increase the rate at which your cells divide and thus increase your risk of lung cancer. It is your right to choose to smoke but don't publish bs articles and pray on the naivete of the public.

Anonymous said...

No actually there have been studies done and marijuana has been proven to not lead to lung cancer.. example: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729.html

just because you inhale smoke DOES NOT MEAN you are getting lung cancer. my god.

tests on rats concluded that the ones who were introduced to thc actually had lower risk of cancer than those who didnt, and obviously lower risks than the ones who were introduced to tobacco

I am a frequent pot smoker, and all I have to say is I love it. Whatever facts may be out there arguing for or against it, does not matter to me. I am a person who CHOOSES to smoke, therefore I ACCEPT any consequence that comes along with it. The pot smoking debate should ultimately come down to personal choices. If one does not want to smoke...don't smoke. The pot smoking community isn't out to make the entire world into pot smokers, we just want to be able to use the plant (which is used as a relaxation method in most cases) without the fear of being thrown in jail--Ironic huh? I understand that taking anything into my lungs that isn't air is a detriment to my health, but once again I choose to do that. The same as smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol, and those things are completely legal. To quote some other post...when did it become everybody's business what I choose to do with my body?

Anonymous said...

It's not decriminalized in Finland I'm afraid.

Anonymous said...

"How can you possibly say that alcohol is safer than pot?"
Because no one has died from overdosing on it. You can't get weed poisoning. You can get, and die from, alcohol poisoning. Alcohol damages your body far worse than weed. Weed over time won't give you cirrhosis(spelling?) of the liver but alcohol over time will. Drunk drivers are far more dangerous than stoned drivers, vaporizing pretty much eliminates most of the harmful elements that come with smoking a dried plant.
There are many, many, reasons why I can say weed is safer than alcohol. The healthiest thing to do is nothing at all, but if you're going to do something, getting stoned is far safer and more (at least for me) pleasurable than getting hammered and throwing up in your bed.

Anonymous said...

This articles contains numerous factual errors, however, well done OP. It's important to get the truth out there any I suppose anything is better than the anti-marijuana propaganda and bias government "research" performed by the US from 1940-1970

The whole it lowers your sperm count and makes eggs not as fertile is completely false. I got pregnant while me and my boyfriend were both smoking weed everyday.

i don't really get what a harvard degree has to do with smoking pot...you can get a degree no problem even if you do smoke...its not like pot is heroin, it wont kill you!!!

Anonymous said...

Look I got my degree from the respected University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Not quite Harvard, but just one step below. I smoked pot nearly every day while I was there. I graduated with a 3.5, and honors.

If you're smoking joints every day, it will increase your chances of getting cancer. Though surely this is because of the tabacco leaves you put in it? A J is just a cigarette with marijuana in it. Also, you'd use a roach not a filter, so none of the tar, formaldehyde, etc. is being removed.
On a different note, all the retarded, angry anons are making me think of 4chan...

Anonymous said...

I don't understand how people that haven't tried MJ can post bias information about it. Do research and you will find that MJ is probably one of the better things that you can put in your body. Weed makes you nonchalant more than anything. Alcohol is perfectly legal but if you consume more than enough, it's "cya later". If anyone disagrees or thinks my opinion is not right... than you should evaluate the information. If alcohol is perfectly legal to the point where we can advertise it on tv and magazines and marijuana, a plant that grows naturally from the ground, isnt atleast decriminalized, than there is something wrong with our country. Politics is all it is... damn

i personally smoke pot pretty much everyday nothing's wrong with me. the whole cancer thing i don't know much about can't lie ,but if it causes cancer why would them give it to cancer patients ? hmmm...

and to 1207 the one talkin about her husband, u really must be retarted go read your comment and maybe you'll realize why your husbands mooody with u, i'd catch an attitude with u too that's just ridiculous.

I realize that the person who posted this was misinformed, yes. But I definitely agree with the "To Each Is Own" state of being, as some previous posters seemed to back.

I've been smoking marijuana for about 6 years now, on a daily basis. I graduated with a 4.0 in honors. I am 19 now. So if you've done the math by now, I started at 13 years of age. I show no signs of metal illness, and am in great physical shape. So the comments regarding Harvard, or on how weed contributes to psycological disorders have yet to have those effects on me.

I know that everyone is different, so it may not have the same effect on others as it does me, but the only people whom I've had experiences with, that do have an illness, had already been pre-exposed to the illness earlier on.

Having said all of that; I do believe in using the herb, but I would not recommend it to those who do have conflicting medical problems.[Although, for most people, it's benefits definitely outway the risks (in my opinion)]

Anonymous said...

About the whole "does/doesnt cause lung cancer" debate, think of it this way: as you are directly inhaling smoke when you smoke marijuana, it will certainly increase the likelihood of lung cancer. However, THC itself has anti-cancer properties, so this reduces the risk of procuring cancer at the same time. It might still increase your chances of getting lung cancer overall, but to a much lesser extent than if you smoke anything else.

I'm not going toargue rights and wrongs I'm just going to atate my own experiences here. Myself and my partner are regular smokers. We both have very good University degrees, well paid jobs, our own house and see friends/family members on a regular basis as well as having a "normal" social life. Why do we smoke? simple - we both have so much whizzing round our heads on a day to day basis that a few smokes of an evening allow us to wind down and relax and enjoy each others company more without being distracted by the days events. So to those that don't smoke please think again befopre you write off "potheads" as lazy, unfulfilled or losers. Some of us just enjoy having something that helps flick the 2off" switch nowe and again.
