I don't think you could be more ignorant if you tried. I bet you also think the world is square and that humans are made of clay, huh?

So, rather than coming up with a statement refuting the argument, insults are used? I think we know who the real fools here are.....

I like the fact that no one has read the whole article. The best part of the article being that the person is arguing the fact, stating that the bible (or misrepresentation thereof)is wrong. Damned straight the bible is wrong! Gay is as gay does, straight is as straight does, intelligent people recognise this, read the whole article, and have an intelligent argument about it.

The fact is, the author has a valid point. People should be judged as individuals and not by what some age old crock of **** book says.

less than 10% of the population is gay, and that is a very generous estimate. being gay isnt a choice, its genetic, and the genes will stay at a low percentage because the number of straight people reproducing greatly exceeds the number of gay people reproducing. take a science class for once.

Anonymous said...

Well said Lacey. I am a straight male, but I don't have a problem with anyone who is gay. Each one of us has the right to do what they want to do and not to be judged by others. And here is a Bible verse that people often forget about.

Luke 6:37
“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.

^^ In regards to peoples response to the "what if everyone turned gay" comment.

Well, has anyone considered being gay as an evolutionary control for OVER POPULATION (Re: 6+ billion people on earth). Seeing as people as a whole can't seem to control themselves and insist on having many babies, I view gay people as a nice little twist.
I'm not gay, and I support their choice for many reasons, but population control is one of my favourites.

Why would the human race go extinct? There are plenty of gay and lesbian doctors. I'm sure that many of the stable gay couples out there would love to have children. So how would that happen? Well, one of those gay doctors meets up with one of those couples, uses invitro fertilization, and would you look at that. The human race continues on.

So before you start spewing crap from your fingers on the internet, use some of the grey matter wedged that thick skull.

"how about it should be considered a crime against nature.what would happen to us as a species if everyone in the world turned gay, extinction"

Homosexuallity is observed in a lot of species, primarily social ones. In a society the group outweighs the individual and success of social animals which includes ourselves is a prime example. Emotion evolved primarily in social beings and its potential benefits outweighs the risks. Homosexuallity in moderation in a society has its benefits to the group. In birds, males sometimes become partners to take care of young. In people, homosexuals are still productive members of society and therefore their benefits outweigh their downfalls. As for homosexuality occurring in 100% of the population its chances are slim to none. Perhaps it could occur if there was a large population imbalance between males and females (which by the way there is a slight imbalance in most geographic areas) and if that were to happen we would be heading to extinction anyways.

In summary, It isn't a crime against nature, in fact, it is a part of nature.

I think the Bible also prohibits its followers from passing judgment on other people. Isn't condemning gays "passing judgment"? If Christ were alive today, he sure wouldn't be hanging out with Christians, or as he put it, "whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness." Cast the beam out of your own eye before you try to find the mote in mine.

I love Jesus; it's his fan club that gives me a pain.

why i disagree with homosexuality? Because it forces people to be provocative and promiscuous. You must tell people what kind of sex you like. You must advertise it or you wont get any. If i were into feet my first question on a date wouldn't be Do you like fucking feet? Because it's inappropriate, reserved for the bedroom. When you're gay thats the first thing you have to ask, and it leads to making other things of the same nature a little easier to display.

Anonymous said...

Homosexuality is as common in the animal world as it is among humans. There is a large body of research reporting on same sex behavior among various species. It is reported throughout mankind's recorded history, including religious texts throughout the world.

If it is without purpose, it would obviously not exist throughout time as the genes that favor these behaviors would eventually be lost; it is innate in us and other creatures.

Either it serves some undiscovered evolutionary purpose or God created it.

The bible considers it an equal sin to eating shellfish or wearing clothing made of more than one fibre. It's called Mosaic law, is Jewish old testament, and considered optional for Christians. These hate-filled idiots have nothing to do with Christianity, they're the archetypal worshippers of the devil in the name of God.

"There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles. ..." Most of what you read on the web is not only untrue, but completely ridiculous. Don't believe that it's simply genetic and that's that.

That doesn't make any sense. How is it more provocative or promiscuous to say you like the same sex than it is to say you like the opposite sex? The difference may be that you say it out loud, but asking "Are you gay?" is no different than asking "Are you single?" It is simply trying to find out if the person you are interested in is interested in you as well. If you want that to go into a conversation about what you like in bed you can, but you can also easily say "Okay, wanna go get some dinner next Tuesday?" and then never talk about sex again.

Also...what's wrong with being promiscuous? If you use protection and are respectful of your partner/partners and yourself, it isn't anybody's business if you are promiscuous. This sexphobia in our culture comes from, once again, religion.

Firstly, the Bible says that we as Christians (I am a christian) are to "judge not". FAIL. This woman is of the type that cannot follow the rules that pertain to herself, but gleefully bashes others for their faults. I personally do not like homosexuality, but that is my OPINION. My own brother is gay as the day is long, but i love him. I have had a few gay friends in my life, and they were great people. Never once have i brought up how they were committing a sin (i am kinda unsure what i believe in that area). I also have never been in any danger of being held down and anally raped. Gay people pose literally no harm to heterosexuals, and there is no reason to attack them. God did the whole do-it-or-else thing in the old testament, and ultimately decided to let people make their own free will choices. It is not our place to judge such trivial matters, Christian or not, and to that end the lady with the fiery tongue needs to settle the fuck down. If you wish to share your beliefs, do so in a manner that isn't on the offense. If you are going to quote the Bible, you had better follow it your self. I guarantee that lady was sitting in front of her computer wearing a polyester/cotton blend shirt, lace/cotton panties, she has eaten pork and shellfish (Prawn and bacon is FUCKING delicious...just thought i would throw that out there) as well as various other things that the old testament forbids, yet proudly states that homosexuality is a sin, and that it is "in black and white in the bible". Who wants to make bets that she has been married before (therefore nullifying her pre-marriage virginity) or had plenty of sex before marriage. If you will read the bible people, you will see that we need to find and stone this woman. I believe the bible myself of course, but i also add a large amount of common sense to what a take away from it. So my direct response to the tard woman is that you don't achieve shit by being a stupid hypocrite bitch. BTW, if it seems that i imposed my opinion on anyone, i apologize. I am just fed the hell up with people who claim to follow Christ, claim to know the Bible, and yet they manage to make a terrible image of Christains for the world to see. On second thought, I'm not a Christian, i am a follower of Christ. Yes, there is a difference.

Before determining the validity of the Bible, it is important to understand what it exactly is.

The old testament is a collection of ancient scriptures written by many different authors. These scriptures contain more than the word of God. The Hebrews used the text as the model for their society. Therefore, the laws and customs of the ancient Hebrews are recorded in the old testament. This is an important distinction. The HEBREWS had thousands of laws. One of the most commonly known ones is that it is a sin to eat pork. GOD gave TEN laws (the commandments. You've probably heard of them. There was a big movie made about them in 1956.) directly to Moses.

The verses that Lacey quotes from Leviticus are the laws of the ancient Hebrews. They are not part of the Ten Commandments given directly to Moses by God, nor are they part of any other divine revelation. Therefore, these verses must be taken for what they are. The ideas of the HUMAN who wrote them. While these ideas may very well have been commonly accepted by ancient Hebrews, they have little relevance today, even to a devout christian.

Conversely, the new testament (Accounts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; some important information about the early christian church, and a prophecy concerning the second coming of Christ. In other words, the text that most directly concerns Christianity) contains all of these words that are usually printed in red ink. These are words that were actually spoken by Jesus Christ (probably a paraphrase, since his disciples wrote them down later). The general message that I get from reading these words is that we should extend our love, and acceptance to all people. Especially the people that are oppressed, excluded, mocked, or persecuted (in our society, homosexuals fit that category).

It is completely up to you if you chose to believe any of this or not. Personally, I chose to believe it, but faith has to be a personal decision that I can not hope to influence. I just think it is important for everyone to understand that Christianity has no official stance on homosexuality. As Ghost so excellently explained, Christianity DOES have a pretty firm stance against judging anyone but yourself. Any argument to the contrary probably involves cleverly constructed false evidence, created by taking mundane verses horrifically out of context.

"how about it should be considered a crime against nature.what would happen to us as a species if everyone in the world turned gay, extinction."

My response:
Reproduction is a crime against nature. We're killing our world as it it. What would happen if everyone reproduced just because they we're able to? extinction. Extinction in one of the most terrifying ways. More hunger, war & disease.
Ever heard of the plague?

And that is the stupidest defense of homosexuals & the bible. Guess what? The bible also says sin is equal in the eyes of god.
So every glance in the direction of a pair of breasts that do not belong to your wife is just the same as two gay men having sex, is just the same as a child lying to his parents about a cookie he stole, just as premarital sex is a sin, any sex after a divorce is still adultery even if you've remarried. He died on the cross because we are sinners.

Love is love, when it comes down to it.
God gave us a life to live, and if you love someone, I'm pretty sure god would just be jazzed that your happy.

Your ignorance and intolerance is a crime against anyone who has to put up with you, including in this message board.

I must say I love babies, this argument was for the sake of making a point.

Charles Darwin actually was a christian and thought that he was going to hell because of his research, but can you blame him? He was born and raised into christianity and modern science was nonexistent at the time.

Like Darwin,I was raised into believing christianity, but as I matured and learned more about modern science, it all turned around. I know that christianity is very convincing and it's human nature to want the answers to many questions like "how were we made" and "what will happen to us when we die". The fact is that people should really look at both sides of the argument instead of focusing on the bible which was written by man.

Now I'm not trying to force anyone into atheism, but I hate that a great portion of our society is ignorant as hell. religulous is a great movie BTW. I can't say that I'm really really intelligent. I'm probably of average intelligence (23 on the ACT which is average i guess), yet based on surveys, religious people outnumber athiests 4:1 (i hate that word because it's been antagonized).

I would definitely agree with Lacey on this account: "doing what is right regardless of what I'm told". I also believe in brief posts so people get the main points, so I'll stop being a hypocrite right now.

Anyone who believes/takes the Bible literally is not a free-thinking human being. Have any of you entertained the idea that the Bible was written by man? Man is fallible, but "God" is not, right? Then explain these:

GE 1:3-5 On the first day, God created light, then separated light and darkness.
GE 1:14-19 The sun (which separates night and day) wasn't created until the fourth day.

EZ 6:12, NA 1:2, 6 God is jealous and furious. He reserves wrath for, and takes revenge on, his enemies. "... who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and rocks are thrown down by him."
2CO 13:11, 14, 1JN 4:8, 16 God is love.
GA 5:22-23 The fruit of the Spirit of God is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

GE 27:28 "May God give you ... an abundance of grain and new wine."
DT 7:13 If they follow his commandments, God will bless the fruit of their wine.
PS 104:15 God gives us wine to gladden the heart.
JE 13:12 "... every bottle shall be filled with wine."
JN 2:1-11 According to the author of John, Jesus' first miracle was turning water to wine.
RO 14:21 It is good to refrain from drinking wine.

Judge not lest you be judged, it is not for us to judge others but to let others judge themselves.

If you are a friend to a sinner, show through your actions that your faith is true. Do not tell people they have to believe as you do, God gave everyone freewill to chose what they want to do and believe. Remember it is for Christ to judge all men on his return.

I love when reading people comments becomes way more interesting that whatever started them. People get so angry about what everyone else thinks. Fact of the matter is, even if there was a god (highly unlikely) he wouldn't hate the gays that he created if he was infallible as the bible says. Besides, getting angry at gays does nothing but make you look like an idiot who is affected by something that has no impact on your life. They're not going away either, so deal with it.

OR how about EVERY species has shown homosexual tendencies, in fact. And that comment is sheer ignorance at its best. (no, that was not an insult...ignorance=misinformation). Not EVERYONE is gay, and not EVERYONE is straight. That's the point. Everyone is on the scale and no one is 100% straight or 100% gay. Look up the Kinsey Scale.

Also, the world is over populated as it is. So not only are we NOT a crime against nature, GAYS ARE NATURES WAY OF CONTROLLING THE POPULATION. Not only that, but we are also taking the children that your 'oh so sacred' straight people chose to give up. You're welcome.

You may not agree with each other, but arguing with one another on an internet forum does not further either of the sides- it just makes everyone look bad.

The Bible is the living Word of God, if you are a Christian. You can read the same chapter two different times years apart and get a different feeling as to what part is important. Non-Christians do not have the Holy Spirit inside, so it's just type on a page and seems to contradict itself. If you are a Christian that goes away and it feels like God is speaking to you. This doesn't happen always but usually. I have additional news, you will all find out the answers to your debate in less than 100 years sooner for most. (I assume most of you are over 10 and won't live past 100.

Give the Bible an honest try and ask God to help you. He will change you, if you want and open your eyes. You will feel so much better.

That does not apply for homo or heteros.) if their is no box for my label I like to be called gay, lesbian just doesn't sound nice to me.
So to the people who think the human species will die out because of to much men having sex with each other, please stop being retarded (that means being slow) and realize what year you are in and all the medical advances thanks to SCIENCE we have. Stop reading one book, for there are many. Go to school and study. And please do not have children. You should be more worried about the billions of human on this planet and more so all the moronic ones like you who follow a fable and are stuck in ancient times. This is soon to be 2011 my fiancée and I will get married and adopt many children and help those in foster care. We will give them the love they will never receive at a hateful heterosexual home.

A guy sticking his dick in another guys asshole is wrong. A girl doing the grind with another girl is wrong, end of story. Argue all ya want but it's true, bottom line is homosexuality is a "behavior" and behavior can be controlled. If God says something is wrong or to not do something,he also gives us a way and the help we need to combat such feelings and to control our actions he doesn't condone. Everyone always uses their own rationalization to take the easy way out and just go against what we're commanded not to do cause it's easier to do wrong. It is what it is

That's weird. I'm Catholic, and I'm in favor of same-sex marriage...

Weird, cuz there's a species of whiptail lizards that have no males. It's an all female species (pretty rare for a vertebrate). The reproduce by pretty much f***ing each other and producing what can be called "clones". Last I checked, they weren't extinct. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cnemidophorus

Also interesting to note that the APA dropped homosexuality as a disorder in the 1970s, so if the good majority of psychologists think that it's not a mental disorder, and if there are christians who believe that it's okay and not a sin, and if there are places that allow same-sex marriage, then why are there people still against this? Are there people still against black people marrying white people? Still against a Catholic marrying a Protestant?

Wonder why there aren't people against the cultures and societies that have third genders, like fa'afafines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fa%27afafine ?

I hate to burst a bunch of people's bubbles, but the Bible is historically correct and has been in line with every archeological find ever. The statement that it is not true or incorrect is rather ill-founded. God loves us all, and designed women perfectly for men, and vice versa.
Everyone has mutations in their genetic codes. Everyone. For some of us, it makes a big difference. For others of us, not so much. These are all effects of the Curse, which started when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. Earth was never intended to be like this.
Animals are animals. God designed them to do what they do, and designed us to do what we do. It's just because he says so. Unfortunately, as human beings, we all tend to have trouble humbling ourselves to accept this. God is bigger than us and more infinite than us, and we will never ever in eternity fully and completely understand him.
God loves us all and we should all aspire to be like him. It's not attainable in this life time, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can abstain from sin, like homosexuality.
God bless!

The Bible was written by MAN. It is a load of bulls**t. If any religious person bothered to study biology in detail, they would see that regarding genetics and evolution, homosexuality makes perfect sense. And me being a homosexual myself, I know that from a very young age, before I knew what homosexuality was, I knew that I wasn't attracted to the opposite sex but I was attracted to the same sex. And religious people would tell me that I was sinning at this early age? That I somehow chose to be attracted to the same sex and "abandon God" before I even knew what sin was? Nah. Bulls**t.

The fact of the matter is that the bible is and always will be debated for meaning. As a Christian and Youth Minister I believe that God has a special love for the gays, Jesus came to the needy, not the "church folks." The more Christians act in this ridiculous, hate mongering manner the more people will fall away from a religion and book (bible) that are there to show God's love for all mankind. I don't have all the answers, and I think nobody does. Anyone who claims to know what God wants is fooling themselves. What I DO know is that God loves everyone equally, and IF homosexuality is a sin (which I don't believe it is) then sin is sin in God's eyes, so there is no way one sinner can try to pin a group of people (gays) as a problem when all mankind sins and falls short of the glory of God. The bible is more simple than you think...love God and love one another, if you read it without this in mind then you are reading it wrong.

Fact whether you are religious, agnostic, or an evolutions, survival is always of the fitest and most intellect. If people wish to use drugs and die fine, perform acts of homosexuality or beastiality and die from aids or bleeding from the anus..FINE! Not teach their hillybilly kids proper gun control..FINE! Kill yourselfs off! It shouldn't matter what a book says, common sense is just that...common. Everyone is aware of the consiquences of their choices! let them choose and stop arguing about it, or blame it on something else. They have a mind and the free will to choose no matter the consequences. Life's lessons are either learned the hard way or the easy. learning from others and their results, or murphy's law and THIS time for me will be different.

Amidst what I think was a somewhat valid point is way too much stupid. I feel like I should point out a few things just because this seems more angry than intelligent. First off, you (and lots of people I've noticed) lump homosexuality in with bestiality...I don't know where to start with that...its idiotic. Secondly, survival of the fittest works for animals, but what separates us from animals? I would think it was the ability to see someone ruining their lives with drugs or anything like that and have the compassion to want to help them. I would think that people of all faiths and even those who are agnostic would agree that human compassion separates us from the animals....that and the internet!

I would just like to add a hypothesis to the idea of genetic homosexuality. It may be possible that our genes have a way of taking themselves out of the gene pool when they have run their course. This would allow someone to be born and then live a perfectly normal life. By being gay they would still be able to find the Love that is needed to be happy while not propagating their genes. To be clear, I in no way mean to suggest that a persons Genes are faulty and therefore have some kind of innate need to keep from reproducing. I just mean that most things naturally end at some point. I know this just an opinion of mine, but it I think it's a rational explanation of those who know their sexuality wasn't a choice they made. By the way I am straight and see absolutely nothing wrong with homosexuality. I truly wish the religious people of this world would stop using the Bible as the fundamental basis of all their beliefs or arguments and legitimately think for themselves. As many people have pointed out already, if you are going to hold it up as the infallible word of God as the voice of truth, then you cant pick and choose what "laws" you want to follow from it. The Bible may contain some wisdom in it, but I would like to claim that there are many more contemporary books that are much better sources of wisdom for us all.

whats wrong with one man loving another? wanting to be with them for the rest of their life? if christianity is about love then let them love each other and be with one another. if god created man, then he also created homosexuality. if he did this by accident then god is not perfect. if god is not perfect then god does not exist because why would an all powerful, all knowing god want to be imperfect? On that subject, can any christian please prove that god exists? praying to him and having something good happen, like winning the lottery, does not mean it was gods will, it means you were lucky, or it happened because it happened.

The comments reminded me of watching a documentary on Samuel Clemines on PBS.

His father owned slaves and in the church the pastor would preach how god approved of slavery in quoting the bible.

What makes you think that religious leaders aren't feeding information that supports the main donors of the congregations?

So truly anyone can find and twist paragraphs and phrases to fit their own agenda.

Watching Barney is a sin, He's a big purple dinosaurs and Dinosaurs don't exist because evolution doesn't exist... Teaching evolution is still a hot item being debated on and off In Kansas.
tem. Yes okay maybe it isn't good to use it as a form
How about abortion folks? Yes another hot topic. Seriously is killing someone like a late term abortion doctor any better than exterminating a pregnancy? I think not. In a pro life point of view, you would think not, right? Or how about that baby dies in a war? Or dies without the top of their head and the mother new that after 4 months of her pregnancy, should she seriously have to go through it all? The child is going to die still born anyway?

Trust me, no matter what, the bible works for all agendas. Soon it will be a sin to treat non human forms as people. You remember Planet of the Apes, right?

"homos are gay."

You don't say... :O
I bet you also didn't know that all of the dinosaurs became 100% gay. And now look, they are all extinct. ;)

I am bisexual and loving it. I do no care what is written in the Bible or what research shows. I am what I am. And I'm loving it.

I also do not believe in what many people refer to as "GOD or DEVIL". I do not need religion to tell me how to live my life. I have a high sense of morals and human dignity.

I love all people. So this one goes out to the "SINNERS", the "SAINTS", the "HOMOSEXUALS", the "HETEROSEXUALS", and to the "HUMAN RACE"! oNE lOVE!

Thank you to the individuals who posted this facebook status. Thanks to the other people who left so many interesting comments/arguments/positions/and jokes.

If anyone want to leave a negative comment on my lifestyle... (THANK YOU in advanced, but IDGAF).

Of course not everyone is going to turn gay. You have many other ways of reproducing. Whether it be a surrogate mother or sperm donation.
