Probably the same reason as it is in German: nouns always start with capital letters.
And Brazil's also a combo breaker: we call it abacaxi. :)
we call it ananas here in northeastern Brazil... so you down south are the combo breakers
In Spain we say "Piña"
They have spanish wrong, so which other ones are wrong...
In Afrikaans it's called a pynappel. Direct translation: Pain apple >:D
Spanish = Piña
Well, Turkish is also wrong. Its "Gözlüpülürüderler" here.

In spanish you can call them ananás or piña, is the same thing.
