Cats unfold and "parachute" from large heights. It's normal. Actually, the higher the better. Cats have a worse chanse of making it from 3-5 meters, than from 6 - 10. They have more time to unfold and make a good landing that distributes the weight to all four legs. With a good front- paw landing, the spinal takes up a lot of the impact force until the rest of the impact is absorbed by the back feet.

A few years ago I saw a cat jump from over 9000 and live. It's tail helicoptered too, I wonder if that's a technique they employ?
