7,500 people unknowingly sold their souls online

Friday, April 16, 2010

Clicking on 'I agree to the terms and conditions' can cost you your soul:
A computer game retailer revealed that it legally owns the souls of thousands of online shoppers, thanks to a clause in the terms and conditions agreed to by online shoppers.

The retailer, British firm GameStation, added the "immortal soul clause" to the contract signed before making any online purchases earlier this month. It states that customers grant the company the right to claim their soul.

"By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant Us a non transferable option to claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul. Should We wish to exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written notification from gamesation.co.uk or one of its duly authorised minions."

A claim against something that is non-existant, hmmmmm

Can we get them on the technicality that Anno Domini should come BEFORE the year, and that in putting "the year 2010 Anno Domini" they have written "the year 2010 the year of our Lord" which makes no sense?

Or we could calm down and understand it is a joke. The article fails to mention that gamestation was testing to see how many people TRULY read their ToS. If you opted out of the clause, you got a 5 pound discount. It was just a joke, stop taking life so seriously.

Or it could be mistaken because no one uses AD/BC anymore.
Its BCE/CE now lol.

You could always make the argument that the soul is a part of the human body and therefor, if they did collect on this clause, the company could be arrested, tried, convicted and jailed for the trafficking of human body parts. Last I checked, it was still considered illegal to do so in England.

the soul if it existed. would not be a body part but some intangible essence.

Your soul belongs irrevocably to yourself and God!

YOU ALL HAVE SERIOUS ISSUES! it was a JOKE people!!!

The clause is contra bonos mores, and therefore unenforceable. Any first year law student could tell you that.

Anno Domini means "IN the year of your lord," meaning all time after Jesus was born.

I remember reading a ToS from a game emulator way back in the day where the last line was "Lucifer is your true god".
