One time when I was in college, we played speed chess for shots. Unfortunately, I was a far better chess player than those around me, too competitive to throw a game on purpose, and unable to hold my liquor. Literally. That experience put me off gin for a long time.
BTW, I can't help but secure my status as Most Anal Commenter by pointing out that the people in the picture don't seem to be playing chess. In fact, it doesn't look like checkers either. I'm guessing it's a game of more recent vintage (heh) like Amazons or LOA.
