Based on true events that happened in 1965, the movie tells the story of two daughters of traveling carnival workers who are left for an extended stay at the suburban Indiana home of a single mentally-unstable mother and her family of seven children.

The woman (portrayed with great intensity and evil by Catherine Keener) takes an immediate disliking to the beautiful sixteen-year-old Sylvia (Juno's Ellen Page), one of the two sisters, who she falsely accuses of telling lies, stealing, and promiscuity, which then later leads to a series of horrific and disturbing events.

The film is not for everyone. It is a non-fictional disturbing drama that most people would find difficult to sit through, but it's one of those you definitely shouldn't miss watching.
