The National Geographic cover girl - then and now

Remember this girl? Well, of course you do. She’s the famous National Geographic Magazine cover girl. Her name is Sharbat Gula and the original picture, called 'Afghani Girl', was taken in a Pakistani refugee camp by photographer Steve McCurry for National Geographic in 1985, when she was approximately 13 years old. The second one was made 17 year later, in 2002, when a team of experts finally located and identified her, using biometric technology.

its either the lighting or she's had a nose job done...
remember, this is 17 years later. she would be 30 years old versus 13. not to mention she's living in a war torn country. also, facial features such as the nose and ears can shift and change a lot as you age. also lighting can make a big difference, as mentioned by the person above.

How can we forget this amazing face? Everytime I see a Natinal Geographic magazine I think about this girl. It's sad to see that what years of suffering and lack of hope can make in a human's face. However her strong soul speaks out. She must be a amazing woman.
those blood vessels in your eyes don't change. look at the eye on the right. notice the same red vessels. it's the same girl. same eyebrow directional growth, with a bit of a sag due to age. and features like the nose are more round at a young age. as you get older, these features become more defined and edged.
Very unforgettable photo. I saw this in NatgeoTV sometime ago. Fascinating story. She would have grown nicely if she lives in a happy and free world. Nevertheless, I wish her a better life. Kudos to Steve McCurry.
