Bear Attack

Wednesday, November 21, 2007

November 14, 2007, the village Gasoo, Kashmir, India.

A group of villagers set up pit as a bear trap and try to drive an Asiatic black bear into a it by waving sticks and a blazing torch. This is what happens:

The bear gets the last laugh. It rounds on the men, who flee in terror. One of the outsmarted-by-a-bear attackers falls into his own camouflaged pit trap, is left behind and gets owned by the animal, suffering multiple injuries.

The pictures were taken by an agency photographer sent on an assignment to highlight the illegal hunting of bears in Kashmir.
