Protester of the day: man jumps from balcony in Romanian Parliament

Thursday, December 23, 2010

It happened this morning during Parliament no-confidence motion against the government voting session against the government: a man jumped from the chamber balcony (about 23 feet) right when the Prime minister was giving a speech.

He did it as a protest against the government's policy during the current recession and its austerity measures. He was wearing a t-shirt with the words "You have killed our future" written on it and yelled: "You have taken the bread from my children's mouths, you have killed the future of our children" right before he jumped.

(Warning: graphic video)

According to reports, the man's suffered a leg and a nose fracture. While they were taking him out on a stretcher, he yelled "Freedom!"

This is all over the news right now in Romania.

Fun fact: there's a Qur'an written in Saddam Hussein's blood

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

And the thing is, they don't know what to do with it.

From The Guardian:
Over the course of two painstaking years in the late 1990s, Saddam Hussein had sat regularly with a nurse and an Islamic calligrapher; the former drawing 27 litres of his blood and the latter using it as a macabre ink to transcribe a Qur'an. But since the fall of Baghdad, almost eight years ago, it has stayed largely out of sight - locked away behind three vaulted doors. It is the one part of the ousted tyrant's legacy that Iraq has simply not known what to do with.

Ukrainian Parliament fight

Friday, December 17, 2010

The members of the Ukrainian Parliament sure love a good fight.

Members of president Viktor Yanukovich's party stormed the parliament podium last night after supporters of Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the opposition, currently under investigation for acts of corruption, blocked it, protesting against the political repressions against her. According to reports, 5 members of the opposition were hospitalized.

From Uresque:
This recent character has been popping up on 4chan lately. He's known as Family Tech Support Guy, and he's a reluctant college student who came home for Christmas only to find a host of computer-related questions from the family, all so trivial and beneath him that he can only respond with reluctance and disdain.
