Massive highway pile-up in Wisconsin

Thursday, December 12, 2013

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation provides us with traffic cam footage of the chain-reaction crash that happened during the major snow storm that hit southeastern Wisconsin last Sunday. Watch about 10 minutes of cars piling up non-stop in the show on Highway 41/45, near Germantown.

It kills me how many people get out of their cars immediately after stopping. Do they not realize there are giant missiles of metal and plastic, speeding at them at highway speeds, waiting to completely destroy them? I was in a 3-car pile-up on icy roads, and I stayed in my car, yelling at other drivers to get back in as we waited for law enforcement to arrive. There were several other cars that hit the same icy patch that we did, and could have easily ran into us. Unless your car is on fire or completely crushed, it's by far the safest place to be in a situation like this.
