Pit bull meets porcupine

Thursday, May 30, 2013

It took over two hours for three people to remove all the quills from this pitbull, after he had a fight with a porcupine. According to Redditor Jordanahl, the dog had to be put under for the procedure, but he made it without any significant prolonged injuries.

Well at least they took the time to take several pictures of the dog while it was in severe mind numbing pain.

Porcupines are some crazy interesting animals. Complete docile and chill bark eating tree dwellers (like an american version of a sloth) but it will mess the ever-living heck out of you if you even think about messing with it. Those quills are ridiculously sharp and slip through leather work gloves like a hot knife. I use to pluck quills out of roadkill as a kid and use them as blowgun darts for shooting rats.

Imagine what would happen to an animal out in the wild with a face full of quills like that.... it would starve to death in horrible pain that would drag on for weeks.

I think you're being a bit harsh.

The first is taken at what looks like the scene. So no real opportunity to put the dog under there.

And the second looks like just before surgery?

I don't think they sat there for hours prolonging the poor thing's suffering unnecessarily.
