Thanks for this info, but like so much on the internet, it doesn't tell the whole story.

This history dates from the 1940s, but the first computer was actually devised by Charles Babbage in England, who first discussed the principles of a calculating engine in a letter to Sir Humphry Davy in 1822.

He began building the first computer in 1822, what he called the difference engine, made to compute values of polynomial functions, created to calculate a series of values automatically.

There's a lot of information available on Babbage, and some of his original parts, and working machines built from his drawings are in museums today.
