Defying the very laws of gravity! Johan Lorbeer is a German performance artist. He has been performing since the 1970's having all kinds of artistic installations but what really made him famous are his Still-life performances. These include the "Proletarian Mural" and "Tarzan", displayed below, which were performed on the streets of Germany. Internationally, he is still semi-unknown.

The performances featured in his Still-life series involve some form of optical illusions that make him look like he is defying the laws of gravity. They seem really impossible. Let me know if you figure out how they are done.

There's a support wire/beam running through his sleeve connected to a harness.

This is not his real arm. It is somehow prolonged, just look at the secon picture from top or bottom. It's much too long. There is some kind of support beam fixed to the wall, disguised by the "hand" and attached to a harness which he wears.

He is just high enough so that people will have trouble spotting the wire from the roof to his harness.
He is pushing himself away from the building.

where are you folks buying 180-225lb-test wire that doesn't show up on camera?

Like Eli, i suspect an angled bracket is anchored to the wall, then travels through the man's sleeve, down his body, and then has a support under his foot (rather than a harness).

Shaped something like this:

If it were a wire I don't think he would be stable - any wind or motion he made would cause movement. Also even fishing-line would be visible to the crowd at that distance I would think (having seen fishing line myself at similar and further distances).

But who knows.

That is very plausible.

But what really intrigues me is why don't the people get underneath him in none of the pictures. I mean, if I was there, that would be the first thing I would do.
